How to find median class using graph ?

Most of the students are facing the problem that how to find the median class using less than and more than cumulative frequency curve. Here are some of the examples and videos are presented. I hope this will be helpful for you.

1. Find the median class using the given less than cumulative frequency curve.

Here, N=70,
Position of median =(N/2)th item
 =70/2=35th item
Look at the 35th item on the cumulative frequency an
d draw a parallel line with x-axis and draw perpendicular to x-axis.
The perpendicular line x-axis in between 50 and 60.
Hence median class=50-60.

2. Find the first quartile class (Q1 class) from the given graph.

Here, N=70,
Position of first quartile=(N/4)th item.
=70/4=17.5th item
Similarly, look at the 17.5th item on cumulative frequency and draw a horizontal line through 17.5 to the parallel with x-axis. And draw the perpendicular line with x-axis.
The perpendicular line meets x-axis in between 30-40.
Hence first quartile class=30- 40.

3. Find the  third quartile (Q3) class from the above graph as given in Q.No.1 or 2.

Here N=70
Position of third quartile=(3N/4)th item.
=210/4=52.5th item
Similarly, look at the 52.5th item on cumulative frequency and draw a horizontal line
through 52.5 to the parallel with x-axis. And draw the perpendicular line with x-axis.
The perpendicular line meets x-axis in between 70-80 .
Hence third quartile class=.70-80
